Kids Chairs. Your child is growing and now at the age where they are sitting to draw, play and possibly starting to write.

You are thinking that it would be valuable for their health to invest in a chair that supports their physical needs and their learning goals. Like most parents you are also looking for something that looks really good too.

But where do you start?

How do you ensure that you get value for money? and select the right chair that suits your child whilst looking after their health  – not just today but tomorrow, next week and for the many years to come?

At Acorn Ergonomics, we have put together a list of important features to help you when researching the perfect chair for your child.

Kids Chairs. The good investment.

  1. Adjustable height

Kids chairs need to be able to adjust low enough so that your child can place their feet flat on the floor when seated with good posture. It also needs to be able to adjust high enough to grow with them.

  1. Adjustable depth seat pan

This is a feature that allows the seat base /pan ( part your child sits on ) to slide forwards and backwards accommodating the length of your child’s upper legs. The seat pan depth should be adjusted appropriately to allow your child to sit at the rear of the seat pan, achieve good back support and still allow a good 3 – 4 fingers space between the front of the seat and the back of their knees.

  1. Adjustable height back rest

An adjustable height back that adjusts separately to the seat pan and total chair height is needed to mirror the natural curves of your child’s back and provide support to lower and upper back.

  1. Adequate lumbar support

A healthy kids chair provides adequate lumbar support to maintain your child’s ideal lumbar spinal curvature.

  1. Adjustable features

Chairs with adjustable features that will accommodate your child’s growth are smart, so that you don’t have to keep spending money on buying chairs.

  1. Safe, sturdy and durable

Chairs that are sturdy, durable and safe with a low risk of pinch points or from tilting over make sense.

  1. Warranty

The warranty is very important. Always check the chair you are buying is from a company with a comprehensive warranty. Its a very important part of understanding exactly what value for money and assurances you are receiving.

  1. The fitting

Is important that all products that are designed to meet you child’s individual needs are fitted by a consultant ideally with training, not just in the functionality of the chair but in ergonomics and the health needs of your child.
